Running, swimming, and tennis are considered integral parts of a healthy lifestyle these days. So many people are very passionate about incorporating them into their lifestyle. However, in order to be able to engage in these activities regularly, one needs time and access. And many may find themselves barred, if they don’t have the resources required to get to and from the gym, swimming pool, or tennis courts.
Maqro City Tbilisi residential complex intends to provide residents with sports infrastructure organically integrated into the complex grounds. Such an approach is a major advantage, because regular physical activity will no longer require additional logistical planning and commuting (which, in Tbilisi, can tantamount to wasting a lot of precious time on the road).
Running is one of the simplest and most accessible forms of physical activity, as most people do not require special equipment, a coach, or a strictly fixed schedule to engage in it. All it takes is a suitable space and some motivation. It’s not always easy, however, to find a proper space to run in the city. Sidewalks are often crowded and running nearby traffic is neither comfortable nor safe.
Maqro City Tbilisi intends to address this challenge by building cycling and running tracks on the ground of the complex itself. These tracks will have a total area of 1,687 sq. m. of the complex’s recreational zone allotted to them and will be fully separated from vehicle traffic.
Swimming is one of those activities that combines physical exercise with recovery and renewed energy. Unlike running, however, swimming can be far harder to engage in, as it’s heavily dependent on infrastructure. For people to swim, they need access to a pool that’s regularly maintained, safe, and close enough to home that getting there does not require much effort.
The Maqro City Tbilisi project includes four swimming pools. The number of pools and their placement have been selected in a way to properly service a complex with 4,000 apartments. The residents of different blocks should be able to reach at least one of them quickly and conveniently at all times.
Tennis is a sport that alongside physical activity, also serves a social function. People meet, get to know one another, and make friends by finding regular playing partners on the courts. The social factor is a particularly important one in large residential complexes, where building close connections among neighbors can sometimes be somewhat challenged.
The Maqro City Tbilisi project includes three tennis courts. The goal is for the residents of the complex to no longer necessitate traveling to another part of the city to play - all the appropriate infrastructure should be located very close to home.
The running tracks, swimming pools, and tennis courts are only a small (though crucially important) part of the diverse sports and recreational infrastructure being created in Maqro City Tbilisi. The project also allocates spaces for two basketball courts, open and indoor fitness spaces with a combined area of 1,120 sq. m., and even infrastructure targeted specifically at children, including a kindergarten, and several playground areas totaling 3,536 sq. m.
Overall, out of the 100,000 sq. m. that Maqro City Tbilisi spreads over, 45,169 sq. m. is allotted to recreational zones - nearly half of the project grounds. The proportion is a clear proof that creating an environment fit for an active and healthy lifestyle was a priority among the project designers from the get-go.
A healthy lifestyle is a personal choice, and everyone recognizes that. In many cases, however, this decision can be taken out of the people’s hands not because they lack motivation, but because they don’t have access to the right conditions. When a pool, tennis court, or running track is just a few minutes away from home, engaging in a physical activity becomes much easier.
The concept of Maqro City Tbilisi is built precisely on this idea and aims to create a living environment where engaging in sports is a natural part of daily life rather than a logistical challenge to be solved.
